De Jong Returns Healthy and Ready for the 2020 Season

Victoria, BC (Dec. 13th) – Pacific Football Club is pleased to announce that midfielder Marcel de Jong is contracted through to the 2020 season. Signed last year for the Canadian Premier League’s inaugural season – an Achilles injury at the beginning of the season, hampered de Jong’s introduction to Pacific FC.

A defender who can also step into midfield, Marcel is fully fit for the 2020 season and having a player of Marcel’s ability back, paired with his on and off the field qualities, leadership and character is exciting news for the club.

“Marcel has been excellent in his recovery, he finished the season in a good place and brings great experience to our group,” stated Interim Head Coach James Merriman. “He leads by example on and off the field and sets the standard in our group.”

De Jong, 33, has 56 senior caps for Canada’s men’s national team and over 290 professional appearances across the top divisions in Holland, Germany and North America.

“Marcel brings his experience and presence on the field, this builds confidence in our group. He will help our young players express themselves on the field while also keeping them accountable.”

Pacific FC is currently in discussion with several players from the 2019 roster who have options to continue for 2020 with the club and will be updating accordingly.
