Didic and Young named to Team of the Week – Week 23

The Canadian Premier League announced the Team of the Week for Week 23 of the CPL season on Tuesday and Amer Didic and Sean Young were named in the XI.

Didic announced himself early in the match on Sunday, and showed how his free kick’s are a force to be reckoned with when his first attempt necessitated a good save from the goalkeeper. The centre-back’s second attempt, which proved to be the final kick of the first half, shook Starlight Stadium with its sheer power. With a four-man wall in front of him, Didic lined up another thunderbolt that flew into the back of the net and allowed Pacific to return to the locker room with the score 1-1. Aside from his goal, Didic was dominant at the back. The 27-year-old won four of five aerial duels, and had two clearances and two recoveries against Atlético Ottawa. This is the fifth time Didic has been named to the CPL Team of the Week this season, the most of any Pacific FC players in 2022.

Young’s overall growth this season was envident again on Sunday. The 21-year-old has become an indispensable player in Pacific’s midfield in the second half of the season and further proved why against Ottawa. Young’s languid style on the pitch allows him to cover every inch of grass and impact all areas of the game. His ability to play line-breaking passes was seen in his 23 passes into the final third and his impact on the tempo of the match was seen in his 91% passing accuracy. On the other side of the ball, Young had seven recoveries and won six ground duels in a hard-fought battle. The Victoria-born midfield has now been named to the Team of the Week three times this season, all of which have come in the last seven weeks.
