Pacific FC continues strong preseason with 2-0 win over Valour FC

Pacific FC beat Valour FC 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday at Starlight Stadium.

The win continued the Tridents’ good form this preseason as the squad has yet to concede a goal while putting eight in the back of the net themselves so far.

In what was a scrappy preseason friendly, goals from Easton Ongaro and Josh Heard gave PFC the victory over fellow Canadian Premier League side Valour.

Recap

The first 45 minutes saw Pacific in possession for long stretches of the half, with Manny Aparicio in particular popping up all over the pitch to help the Tridents move the ball around Valour’s defensive set up.

In a foul-happy half it was Ongaro who opened the scoring with a rocket of goal from the edge of the box. It was the centre-forward’s second goal in two preseason games so far.

Thanks to that well-hit strike, Pacific took a 1-0 lead into the break and continued their good form in the second half.

The second half played out very similarly to the first: many fouls, PFC in possession, and a goal from the Tridents.

In the second 45, it was newly-named Pacific FC captain Josh Heard who scored the goal, a penalty – his second penalty goal of preseason – that nestled into the bottom right corner and doubled the Tridents’ lead.

Pacific almost got a third goal very late in the half when Bradley Vliet’s free-kick from near the corner flag almost bent into the top corner but was turned away by the crossbar.

With three preseason games and three wins under their belt, this PFC squad is showing how quickly they’ve gelled ahead of the 2023 CPL season.
