Pacific FC Draft Canada West Duo

Montreal — Pacific Football Club selected Jan Pirretas Glasmacher and Thomas Gardner 3rd and 12th overall in the CPL – U SPORTS Draft hosted in Montreal earlier this week.

Glasmacher joins Pacific FC from Thompson Rivers University where he started all 29 Canada West games for the Wolfpack over the 2018 season. The dual-citizen from Germany and Spain captained TRU this season and was chosen as a first team Canada West All-star.

“Jan is versatile and has played as a central defender, central midfielder and also fullback,” commented Interim Head Coach James Merriman. “A team captain at TRU with excellent character. Head Coach John Antolov speaks very highly of Jan.”

“He was the best overall available player in the draft, in our opinion,” said Pacific FC CEO Rob Friend. “He has that German football mentality and technical capability and we are really excited by him.”

Glasmacher’s pick was followed up in the 2nd round with University of British Columbia athlete Thomas Gardner picked 12th overall. Gardner was drafted in the 2018 CPL – U SPORTS draft, however he was unable to join the squad due to an injury.

“We are excited to have him back and to continue to work with Tommy,” stated Merriman. “A central midfielder, good footballer who is comfortable in our group and should look to compete for minutes next season.”

Born in North Vancouver, the midfielder grew up playing in the Whitecaps FC academy. Gardner signed with the Whitecaps’ USL side before opting to pursue a collegiate career with the T-Birds.
