Victoria, BC – The early season grind continues for Pacific Football Club (1-2-1) as they return to Canadian Premier League (CPL) action on Saturday afternoon at Westhills Stadium against York9 FC (0-1-1). Kickoff in the game is set for 12:30 p.m., with gates opening at 11:00 a.m.
Pacific FC’s injured players—minus defender Hendrik Starostzik—have slowly made their way back into the Pacific lineup, including midfielder Alessandro Hojabrpour and captain Marcus Haber. The young squad continues to push forward in the young CPL season despite a hectic schedule and is back in league action after a midweek tilt versus Cavalry FC in the opening game of the Canadian Championship.
“I’m going to expect [York9 to bring] a physical presence…a hard game, really,” said Pacific FC Head Coach Michael Silberbauer. “The most important thing is that [our players] keep trying to get into the right areas, keep working hard, keep trying and try to do just a little bit better and ultimately you are going to get rewarded.”
York9 FC will enter its third league game on Saturday in Langford in search of their first win of the year. Head coach Jimmy Brennan’s squad currently sits bottom of the table with a single point, but could leapfrog a number of teams above them with positive results from their games in hand. York goalkeeper Nathan Ingham has been busy through 180 minutes of play and leads the CPL with 11 stops.
Saturday is a pivotal game for both teams in an abbreviated 10-game Spring Season that currently sees undefeated Cavalry FC sitting at the top of the league table. A win would put both Pacific and York back into consideration for the Spring championship.
Saturday at Westhills Stadium is Country Day! Beer gardens open at 11:00 a.m., with a country-themed DJ set from DJ Nikki. Game day activities will feature a mechanical bull and additional Family Zone activities on site throughout the afternoon. Dress up in your best country attire for the chance to win a $100 gift certificate to Moxies.
