Tour de Rock making a pit stop at Starlight Stadium

On Saturday, September 14th at Starlight Stadium Pacific FC will be celebrating Tour de Rock, an annual event where police agencies and emergency service personnel cycle for 14 days across 1200 km on Vancouver Island, raising money for childhood cancer research and support services at the Canadian Cancer Society. 

What is happening at Starlight Stadium?

On matchday, we will be hosting the Tour de Rock riders to help raise awareness around the Tour de Rock – Cops for Cancer fundraiser and the Tour de Rock 2024 event that takes place from September 21st to October 4th as the Tour de Rock riders pedal across Vancouver Island. 

Each Tour de Rock rider is accompanied by a special ‘honourary rider’ which could be a child, family member or cancer patient, who will also be acknowledged at the match. 

What is the Tour de Rock?

Tour de Rock is an event organized by Cops for Cancer that supports children and families living with and beyond cancer. A group of first responder cycliists embark on a two-week, 1,200 kilometre bike ride while raising money for children and their families affected by pediatric cancer. Since its inception in 1997, it has become Vancouver Island’s largest community event and longest-running fundraiser in the province. 

Starting in Port Alice on September 21st, Tour de Rock riders will make their way down the coast of Vancouver Island to Victoria where they will finish on October 4th in front of friends, family and supporters. 

Who has Cops for Cancer impacted?

The Tour de Rock – Cops for Cancer fundraiser directly supports Canadian Cancer Society (CSS) research. CSS is the largest national charitable funder of childhood cancer research in Canada. Over the past 5 years, CSS has invested more than $16.4 million specifically towards childhood cancer research including the following projects:

  • 600 children, over nine camp sessions. Attended Camp Goodtimes in 2023
  • 13% increase in survival rate thanks to research
  • $54 million raised in total from Cops for Cancer
