Kadin Chung returns to B.C. hungry to prove himself at Pacific FC
Canadian Premier League

Pacific FC unveiled local product Kadin Chung as its first player in club history on Thursday, making him part of the first batch of players in Canadian Premier League history.

At 20 years old, the up-and-coming fullback is the youngest of the bunch — and, perhaps, the most exciting prospect coming out of Thursday’s player reveals.

“I have always had the CPL in the back of my mind professionally,” Chung told CanPL.ca.

“This summer I was hearing a lot of talk around the league about potential interest in me. I thought this would be a wonderful experience, especially being a part of something so new in this country.”

The Port Coquitlam native returns to British Columbia following a year in Germany with 1. FC Kaiserslautern’s reserve side. He’s known locally for his time with the Vancouver Whitecaps, where Chung accumulated 45 appearances for the USL’s Whitecaps FC 2 between 2015 and 2017.

“Assistant coach James Merriman contacted me first,” Chung told CanPL.ca.” He approached me in the summer and was talking about the club and the opportunity that could be had by joining the CPL.”

“I worked with him at the Whitecaps Residency program. He worked with younger age groups but I saw him around and got to know him well.”

Known for his technical ability and pace, the two-footed Chung is capable of playing in both fullback positions. He has also appeared higher up the pitch as a winger.

Chung has been a top Canadian prospect for quite some time, representing Canada at the U17, U20 and U23 levels. He represented Canada at the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship as a 14-year-old.

“This league is going to be excellent for young Canadians like myself who have always wanted a professional platform in this country,” he added.

A message to the supporters of Pacific FC by Kadin Chung, the club’s first signing.
