Day 1 of the Canadian Premier League’s #GotGame Open Trials on Vancouver Island has come to an end, with former Canadian international striker Alex Bunbury leading the tryouts while data analytics company Kinduct gathered crucial stats on each of the participants.
Now, only 57 of the more than 220 trialists will be invited back for Day 2 in Calgary, to play in full-fielded 11-v-11 matches.
Pacific FC president Josh Simpson was impressed with the talent on display in Victoria, particularly with the character of the trialists, explaining to CanPL.ca that the reason behind that strength is due to the weather: “Almost all year round, you’re playing outdoors. You get strong as a player and you fight through the cold. Resilient and tough is an island trait, and we’re excited about the talent that’s out there today. You can see in the warmups, guys are ready to go. There’s a lot of excitement and we’re here. We’re ready to take a look.”
Having had an initial viewing, the CPL’s head coaches have weighed in with their thoughts and extended a return invite to 57 trialists for Day 2 of the Open Trials in Victoria – who might those trialists be? Here’s the first cut list:
|Gerson Andres||Sanchez Acevedo||Midfielder|
|Christian Alberta||Vazquez Romero||Midfielder|
