Pacific FC’s Manny Aparicio has been nominated for both the Canadian Premier League’s Player of the Year award and the Player’s Player of the Year award.
Aparicio’s fantastic performances this season further cemented his importance in the Pacific FC squad. Although cut short by injury and suspension, Aparicio made 23 appearances in all competitions in 2022 and finished with two goals and four assists. In CPL action, the 27-year-old made 19 appearances and totalled 1,473 minutes.
The all-action midfielder was often the driving force in Pacific’s team and his on/off numbers prove just how crucial he was. In Aparicio’s 19 CPL appearances, Pacific FC’s winning percentage was 65%, without him it was 18%. Whenever the playmaker was in the team Pacific looked like the team to beat in the Canadian Premier League, and that brilliance started right out of the gate. Aparicio was named to the CPL Team of the Week six times in 2022, the most of any Pacific player, and four of those came in the opening six weeks of the season.
Individually, Aparicio produced the highest assists per 90 minutes of his career (0.21), as well as the second-most passes into the final third per 90 in the league (11.52), first among midfielders, and the fifth-most recoveries per 90 (6.95) among outfield players. All summed up, the former Canadian international’s displays on both sides of the ball this season was simply outstanding.
Also shortlisted for the Player of the Year award are Forge FC’s Alex Achinioti-Jönsson, Atlético Ottawa’s Ollie Bassett and Ballou Tabla, and Valour FC’s Sean Rea. In the Player’s Player of the Year award, Aparicio is lined up against Achinioti-Jönsson, Bassett, Tabla, and Rea, as well as York United FC’s Mo Babouli, Forge FC’s Kyle Bekker and Woobens Pacius, Cavalry FC’s Ali Musse, and former Pacific FC teammate Alejandro Diaz. The winner of both awards will be revealed alongside the other award winners at the in-person ceremony during CPL’s 2022 Finals Weekend.
