Pacific FC hosts Cavalry FC in first round of Canadian Championship

Pacific FC’s path to win the Canadian Championship was unveiled at the live draw on OneSoccer this evening.

In the first round, scheduled for between April 18-20, the Tridents were drawn at home against Canadian Premier League rival Cavalry FC.

Pacific and Cavalry have a history of fiercely-contested matches, and have twice met in the Canadian Championship before. In 2019 the Cavs came out on top in a two-legged tie in the first qualifying round. Then in 2021, Pacific were victorious in a quarter-final matchup that continued the Tridents’ magical cup run that season.

Along with each first round fixture, the entire bracket for the Canadian Championship was drawn out this evening. With Pacific being placed in the pot with Western-based teams, plus York United FC, Pacific’s path to the final includes the Nine Stripes, along with TSS Rovers (League 1 BC Champions), Valour FC, Vancouver FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

If Pacific make it past Cavalry in their opening fixture they will face the winner of TSS Rovers and Valour, again at home.

That home cooking will be a staple of Pacific’s 2023 Canadian Championship no matter how far they go. Every fixture the Tridents play on their side of the bracket, along with the final, will be played at Starlight Stadium.

That means that another potential matchup with the Whitecaps, which would this time be in the semi-final, would again happen on the Island. And to top it all off, if Pacific get to the final they would play hosts and have the chance to be the first Canadian Premier League team to win the Voyageurs Cup with the help of the home crowd at their back.
