Two Tridents earn spots on Gatorade Team of the Week 2024 (Week 24)
Canadian Premier League

The Gatorade Team of the Week for the 24th week of Canadian Premier League action in 2024, brought to you by Kristian Jack and OneSoccer’s Oliver Platt.

Goalkeeper

Jonathan Viscosi (Valour FC)

Viscosi made an outstanding seven saves with two clearances to preserve a 1-1 draw for Valour against Halifax Wanderers, making the Team of the Week for a second consecutive matchweek.

Defenders

Elimane Cissé (Forge FC)

Cissé did well at right-back for Forge in their win over Vancouver FC, with a good assist on Béni Badibanga’s goal. He also won possession eight times and made three successful tackles.

Thomas Meilleur-Giguère (Pacific FC)

It’s been a big week for the Pacific centre-back, who has captained the side in their last two matches. He saved a point for the Tridents on Wednesday with his 97th-minute equalizer against Halifax, and was rock-solid in defence against Atlético Ottawa to complete an unbeaten week.

Nassim Mekideche (Halifax Wanderers FC)

Mekideche has settled in nicely to his new club, scoring a big goal for the Wanderers against Pacific before playing very well again in Winnipeg on Saturday. He won four aerial duels and made eight clearances, using his defensive wits and physical frame to his advantage.

Zachary Fernandez (Halifax Wanderers FC)

The Wanderers fullback has been excellent in the past two games, scoring a possibly season-saving equalizer in Winnipeg on Saturday. He has been a bright spot in attack, helping his side bomb forward down the flanks to put opponents under pressure.

Midfielders

David Choinière (Forge FC)

Forge’s dynamic winger was arguably the brightest star in their 3-1 win at Vancouver. With a goal and an assist, Choinière was the driving force behind their impressive response to the previous week’s loss in Halifax.

Lorenzo Callegari (Halifax Wanderers FC)

Though he came under pressure a bit against Pacific, Callegari did well to make up for it with an outstanding assist to the head of Mekideche. On Saturday, he was the Wanderers’ best player, creating three chances with a team-leading 27 passes in the final third.

Sergio Camargo (Cavalry FC)

Sergio Camargo did this on Friday:

That should be enough, but Camargo was otherwise a crucial part of Cavalry’s comfortable 2-0 win at York Lions Stadium on Friday, helping create plenty of dangerous chances for his teammates.

Béni Badibanga (Forge FC)

Badibanga scored with a lovely finish in Vancouver, and had four shots in total on the afternoon, also winning 12 duels with six successful dribbles.

Forwards

Moses Dyer (Pacific FC)

Dyer’s torrid form to begin life with Pacific FC continued this week, with a goal against both Halifax and Atlético Ottawa. He has truly turned the Tridents’ season around, now having scored in four consecutive games.

Tobias Warschewski (Cavalry FC)

Warschewski was instrumental to Cavalry’s win over York, playing a set-up role for both of their goals. He was physical, fast, and soft with his feet, causing all sorts of problems for the Nine Stripes’ defence.
