Four Tridents earn spots on Gatorade Team of the Week (Week 28)

The Gatorade Team of the Week for the twenty-eighth week of Canadian Premier League action in 2024, brought to you by Kristian Jack and OneSoccer’s Oliver Platt.

Team of the Week — Week 28

Goalkeeper

Aiden Rushenas (Halifax Wanderers)

Rushenas picked up his first professional victory on Saturday as Halifax defeated York United 2-1 at the Wanderers Grounds. He was full value for the victory, with two saves, and several key interventions, including an excellent early stop on Jorge Guzmán.

Defenders 

Daan Klomp (Cavalry FC)

Klomp played a key role in a season finale victory for Cavalry FC with a strong defensive performance. He won three of four aerial duels, made three interceptions and four clearances.

Juan Quintana (Pacific FC)

The Colombian central defender was lights out against Forge FC at Starlight Stadium on Saturday, helping the Tridents to a crucial clean sheet as they secured the fifth and final playoff spot. Quintana won all eight of his duels, three tackles and made six clearances.

Thomas Meilleur-Giguère (Pacific FC)

TMG was the leader at the back for Pacific in their biggest win of the season. He won three of four duels, including both he contested in the air, as well as making seven clearances.

 

Midfielders

Massimo Ferrin (Halifax Wanderers)

Ferrin opened the scoring for Halifax on Saturday during another strong offensive display against York United. He also had three shots, created a chance and completed 23 of his 26 attempted passes.

Sean Young (Pacific FC)

The Pacific midfielder was outstanding in the centre of the park for his side on Saturday, winning six of his nine duels and making three tackles and an interception.

Vasco Fry (Vancouver FC)

The midfielder was a bright spot in a disappointing draw for his Vancouver FC side on Saturday. He created two chances, won seven of 10 duels and possession a stunning 14 times while making three tackles and three interceptions.

Dario Zanatta (Pacific FC)

Zanatta scored his biggest goal yet for the Tridents, giving them a 1-0 victory over Forge on the final day of the 2024 season. Zanatta had three shots, created two chances, and played six crosses during a dynamic performance down the flank.

 

Forwards

Ali Musse (Cavalry FC)

Musse brought his magic to his hometown as he put in a strong shift on both sides of the ball. He won three tackles, and 8 of 13 duels contested, while also creating three chances and taking three shots during a big win for Cavalry.

Tobias Warschewski (Cavalry FC)

A brilliant brace in Cavalry’s final match of the regular season handed the German striker the 2024 CPL Golden Boot award. He was hungry all match long, with six shot attempts on eight touches in the box, 10 attempted dribbles and 18 duels contested.

Tiago Coimbra (Halifax Wanderers)

Coimbra scored the late winner as Halifax finished their season with a victory at the Wanderers Grounds on Saturday. The striker also hit the post, and had four touches in the box during a strong performance leading the line.
