Date and time set for Pacific FC v Vancouver Whitecaps FC semi-final matchup
Canadian Premier League

The 2023 Canadian Championship is down to its final four clubs, and for the second time in competition history, two Canadian Premier League sides have qualified for the semifinal round.

In a mouthwatering doubleheader of MLS vs. CPL rematches to be played on Wednesday, May 24, CF Montréal will host Forge FC (7:00 p.m. ET), while the Vancouver Whitecaps return to the Island to face Pacific FC (7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET). Both matches will be broadcast live on OneSoccer.

On the western side of the bracket, Pacific FC host tournament defending champion Vancouver Whitecaps at Starlight Stadium, two years after stunning the MLS side 4-3 on home soil in the 2021 preliminary round — a match which became an instant classic.

Pacific reached the semis by defeating another British Columbia side, League1 B.C.’s TSS Rovers, 2-0. The Vancouver Whitecaps, meanwhile, secured a big 4-1 road victory against York United.

The winner of this west coast derby match will also have the added incentive of hosting the 2023 final. Forge FC is the only CPL club to date that has played in, and hosted, a Canadian Championship final, when they lost on penalties to Toronto FC during the 2020 edition (played in 2022).

Pacific and Forge also reached the semifinals in the 2021 tournament, with Forge, as mentioned, falling to CF Montréal on penalties, while Pacific lost 2-1 to Toronto FC at BMO Field.

The two semifinal winners will compete in the 2023 Canadian Championship final, which will be played in early June.
