Aparicio and Vliet named to CPL Team of the Week – Week 1

The Canadian Premier League announced the Team of the Week for Week 1 of the CPL season on Monday with Manny Aparicio and Bradley Vliet both earning spots in the XI after Pacific FC’s 1-0 win over Vancouver FC.

Aparicio’s standout moment came with his 81st minute screamer that sealed the victory for Pacific, but in general it was another top-class all-around performance to add to his collection in PFC colours. In addition to that goal, Aparicio made 17 passes into the final third – the second most on the team – won nine duels, and won possession back eight times – the most of any player on the pitch.

Aparicio and Vliet also tied for the most final third entries on the team.

In his PFC debut, Vliet’s composure on the ball, set piece delivery, and defensive instincts stood out from the left-back spot. Vliet’s presence was noticeable down Pacific’s left side all match as he combined well with fellow Dutchmen Djenairo Daniels and Ayman Sellouf to pin back Vancouver’s right flank. The 25-year-old had the most touches of any player in the match, as well as four clearances, one interception, and one chance created. Vliet also won seven of his 10 duels in the match and was brilliant with his delivery from free-kicks and corners.
