Aparicio named Canadian Premier League Player of the Week – Week 6

The Canadian Premier League announced Pacific FC’s Manny Aparicio as the Player of the Week for Week 6 on Wednesday.

After already being named in the CPL’s Team of the Week on Monday, Aparicio completed the double by earning Player of the Week honours as well. At this point, Aparicio is no stranger to the Team of the Week, but this is his first appearances as the Player of the Week this season. Aparicio has now been named in the Team of the Week in back-to-back weeks and four weeks out of six for the season. The 26-year-old has simply been one of the best players in the league in 2022, after already setting an incredibly high bar for himself last season.

On Saturday against FC Edmonton, Aparicio lined up as part of a midfield two with Jamar Dixon – the first time James Merriman has set his team up in that system this year. Dixon was also named to the Team of the Week on Monday and it’s no surprise both midfielders were in there as their partnership worked seamlessly against Edmonton despite having to cover extra ground in the middle of the park without a third midfielder. In an all-action performance, Aparicio’s biggest contribution on Saturday was for Josh Heard’s winning goal. After a trademark run forward from midfield, Aparicio slid a perfect cross to the back-post for Heard to tap in and double Pacific’s lead at that point.

This is Aparicio’s first time being named CPL Player of the Week this season. He joins teammates Marco Bustos, Amer Didic and Callum Irving as Pacific FC players to earn Player of the Week honours in 2022. Pacific has now collectively earned four Player of the Week appearances through the opening six weeks of the season.
