Pacific FC is thrilled to announce the return of defender Kadin Chung, the club’s inaugural signing from November 2018, on a guaranteed contract through 2026.
“I love the Island. It’s my second home. It’s where a lot of my favourite football memories happened,” expressed Chung. “I love the fans, I love the support that they give me. Even when I left the club, there were a lot of people who showed love, and now I hope to come back and repay all that and bring another championship to the Island.”
Chung’s homecoming marks a significant moment for both the player and the club, as he brings with him a wealth of experience and a championship pedigree.
During his initial tenure with Pacific FC from 2019 to 2021, Chung made 63 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and playing a pivotal role in securing the 2021 Canadian Premier League title.
“If you look at that whole season and even the offseason, looking back on it, it took a certain dedication and sacrifice. So when you’re reflecting at the end of the year, wow, that’s what it took. Having that experience, knowing what it takes to get to that moment and then execute, it definitely changes you. And the hunger you get from winning—that feeling is very euphoric. You want to have those experiences more than once. I feel like that drives me a little more to get back to that, for sure.”
His consistent performances and dedication to the team endeared him to fans during his first stint with the club and established him as a cornerstone of the club’s defense.
After his successful stint with Pacific FC, Chung became the third player in CPL history to make the move to a Major League Soccer (MLS) side, joining Toronto FC for the 2022 season, where he made eight appearances and provided one assist.
He then continued his professional journey with Vancouver FC in the Canadian Premier League, adding valuable experience to his already impressive resume.
Chung’s return to Pacific FC is not just a professional move but a heartfelt reunion with teammates and coaches who have played pivotal roles in his career. When asked who he was most excited to see, Chung didn’t hold back:
“All of the ones that I have played with before. Guys like Josh (Heard) and Sean (Young) are great guys. I’ve also been teammates with Dario (Zanatta) from youth national teams, and I’m excited to see him again. Georges (Mukumbilwa) from the Whitecaps academy—there’s a lot of guys who I know are really good characters. I’m excited to also meet new faces, faces that I’ve seen before but now get to play with.”
Pacific FC fans can look forward to seeing Chung’s unwavering commitment on the pitch. As the Tridents’ first-ever signing back in 2018, his name will always be etched into the history books of the Island’s club. A second stint and potentially a second championship open the door for his jersey to one day hang in Starlight Stadium’s rafters.
“I just want to be remembered as someone who, every time they step on the pitch, is giving 100% for the badge, for the fans. I feel like it was difficult for me to leave, even though it was a good opportunity the first time around. So I’m grateful I have the opportunity to come back, recreate the period I was with the club before, and bring another championship to the Island.”
Chung’s return signifies a promising chapter for Pacific FC as they aim to build upon their past successes. With his experience, leadership, and drive to succeed, Kadin Chung is poised to make an immediate impact and help lead the team to new heights.
“I came in as a young kid, still with lots to learn. I felt like I grew a lot in my time that I was here before, but now I want to come back and bring a bit more presence and leadership to the group, hopefully translating that into more success on the field.”
