Chung departs Pacific FC, joins Toronto FC. Kadin Chung has left Pacific FC following the conclusion of the 2021 Canadian Premier League season to join Toronto FC. Chung is the second Pacific FC player to join the MLS side this off-season after teammate Lukas MacNaughton signed with TFC.
After arriving on the Island as the club’s first-ever signing, Chung established himself as one of the best full-backs in the CPL. The 23-year-old right-back joined Pacific in 2018 and quickly became an integral part of the team’s overall identity. Chung arrived at Pacific after time with the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy, Vancouver Whitecaps 2 and a stint in Germany with FC Kaiserslautern II. After three seasons on the Island, Chung departs having made the second-most appearances in club history and with two goals to his name.
In 2021 the Port Coquitlam-born defender continued to build on his sustained progress. Chung played in 29 games last season in all competitions and finished with 2,549 minutes, good for second-most on the team. Chung’s early season partnership with Marco Bustos down the right side of Pacific’s attacks proved particularly influential, but even during Bustos absence due to injury, Chung’s dynamism going forward and brilliant defensive instincts were crucial in Pacific lifting the North Star Shield at the end of the season.
Another of the “Pacific FC Originals”, Chung’s development while on the Island again highlights the club’s technical ethos: develop young players and move them onto a higher level.
