Lajeunesse returns to University of British Columbia following end of U SPORTS contract

Eric Lajeunesse has returned to the University of British Columbia following the end of his U SPORTS contract. Lajeunesse was picked sixth in the 2023 U SPORTS draft by Pacific FC and subsequently signed the contract making him eligible to return to school for the beginning of the UBC Thunderbirds season.

“It’s not easy adapting to the daily demands as a U SPORTS player, but Eric has been an excellent addition to our group,” said Pacific FC Head Coach James Merriman. “He came in extremely humble, ready to learn every day, and has had a very good first season at PFC.”

“We wish him and UBC the very best in their Fall season.”

During his time on the Island, Lajeunesse showed a composure not often seen in young players getting their first taste of professional football. Lajeunesse made his professional debut in just the second match of the season when he was called upon to fill in at centre-back. The 20-year-old then made his first professional start in the following match where he played the full 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw. Lajeunesse went on to make five more appearances (four starts) for the Tridents at both centre-back and left-back. As part of Pacific’s defence, Lajeunesse helped keep two clean sheets and never lost a match in which he started.

As a Under-21 player, Lajeunesse also contributed to the club’s U-21 Minutes this season. His 455 minutes are the most from a U SPORTS player by a very wide margin, and have help Pacific accumulate 1,561 minutes so far in 2023.

Pacific FC wishes Lajeunesse the best of luck with the UBC Thunderbirds this coming season and thanks him for his contributions to the club.
