The Canadian Premier League announced the Team of the Week for Week 14 of the CPL season on Monday, with Thomas Meilleur-Giguère earning a spot after Pacific FC’s 0-0 draw with York United FC on Friday night.

Leading a very young defensive unit (including three U-21 players), Meilleur-Giguère was instrumental in marshalling the Tridents’ backline to their first clean sheet in four matches. The draw also spelled an end to the club’s two match losing streak and was a crucial point at the end of a difficult road trip. Add all that together and Meilleur-Giguère’s appearance in the Team of the Week is no surprise.

In the match itself, the centre-back had six clearances, one interception, won three out of three aerial duels, and won possession back five times. In other words, it was another typical all-action defensive performance from Meilleur-Giguère, and one that couldn’t have come at a better time for the Tridents.

This is Meilleur-Giguère’s third appearance in the CPL’s Team of the Week this season.
