Pacific FC Signs French Defender Aly Ndom

Langford, BC – (February 8, 2024) – Pacific FC today announced the signing of French defender Aly Ndom ahead of the 2024 Canadian Premier League (CPL) season.

Ndom, 27, joins the Tridents on a to a two-year guaranteed contract.

The native of Pontoise, France arrived on Vancouver Island this week after most recently playing for Finnish club IFK Mariehamn in the country’s top flight of football. He made 28 overall appearances in Mariehamn in 2023, notching two assists.

“We are excited to have Aly join the PFC family, he’s a player with lots of personality and great character,” said Jamar Dixon, Manager of Football, Pacific FC. “He has an immense amount of experience and will help lead our backline.”

The left-footed defender enters the Canadian Premier League with a wealth of overseas playing experience at top tier European leagues. Ndom, spent much of his career to date in France, appearing in 92 caps in France’s second division, Ligue 2, before his club State de Reims was promoted to France’s top flight, Ligue 1 where he appeared in 20 matches; playing against world-renowned club Paris Saint-Germain. Ndom built his reputation with Stade de Reims, starting as a club reserve before earning a spot on the clubs senior teams, playing a key role in the clubs promotion to France’s top division, in 2018. He spent time on loan to Caen in 2019 and represented Auxerre in 27 matches between 2019 and 2022, scoring two goals while helping fortify their defensive unit.

Ndom, who holds both French and Senegalese citizenships, left France for Romanian side AFC Chindia Targoviste in 2022, where he played two matches, before heading to Italy’s Viterbese in 2023 and joining IFK Mariehamn later that year. Making use of his defensive talents, Ndom shifted into a left sided centre-back role with the Finnish club, a role that he’ll look to take on with Pacific FC.

Ndom joins Pacific FC’s fellow defenders Georges Mukumbilwa, Kunle Dada-Luke, Paul Amedume & Thomas Meilleur-Giguère for the coming season. The club kicks off training on Monday, Feb. 19 at a week-long camp at Pacific Institute of Sports Excellence (PISE). Media availabilities will be announced by Friday, Feb. 16. Pacific will begin the 2024 CPL Season on Saturday, April 13 at Starlight Stadium, welcoming Halifax Wanderers FC in a battle of the league’s costal clubs. The match kicks off at 4 p.m. PT.
