Sellouf and Young named to CPL Team of the Week – Week 2

The Canadian Premier League announced the Team of the Week for Week 2 of the CPL season on Monday, with Ayman Sellouf and Sean Young both earning spots in the XI after Pacific FC’s 1-1 draw over Cavalry FC.

Sellouf was named in Pacific’s starting lineup for the first time on Sunday and made the most of his opportunity. The exciting and tricky winger caused havoc for the visitors, who took off their right-back at half-time in an attempt to deal with Sellouf. Most importantly, Pacific’s no. 21 scored the equalizing goal in the 42nd minute, but his impact was seen all over the pitch. Sellouf 10 touches and three shots inside the Cavalry box – showing the pressure he puts on opposition defenders, as well as 19 passes into the final third, three chances created, and six successful dribbles – all of which were the highest in the match.

Back in his normal position from the start, Young flashed both the attacking and defensive sides of his game against Cavalry. The Victoria-born midfielder was, like always, all over the pitch on Sunday. Young won more than half of his total duels against the Cavs with 10, as well as 50% of his aerial duels. The 22-year-old also won possession back nine times, easily the highest total in the match, with two of those coming in the final third. Young’s non-stop style of play and top-class ability on both sides of the ball makes him one of the first names on the teamsheet these days, and all signs are currently pointing to this being an absolute breakout campaign for the former Van Isle Wave player.

This is the first time either player has been named in the CPL Team of the Week this season.
